Description

Improve the steering of your classic with an Opentracker roller idler arm. A roller idler arm reduces steering effort and allows greater feedback to the driver by keeping the steering geometry in check. Replacing the factory rubber bushing with  grease-able bearings maintains proper position of the center link as it moves from side to side. Manual steering cars will especially appreciate this upgrade as the reduced steering effort results in more precise steering input while cornering. Slow speed steering is also improved making it ideal for street cars as well.

These idler arms have a pivot that is like a ball joint or tie rod end, it is a bit stiff when new but break in quickly and give years of service. They are not rebuildable and need replacing when worn.

There is just one style of these idler arms but Ford didn’t put the same center link in all of the 66-69 Falcons, Comets and Fairlanes. Some had a idler arm pin that is 2-1/4″ from the flat part of the center link to the cotter pin hole, like in the photo below. Some have an idler arm pin that is longer, the cotter pin hole is 2-5/8″ from the flat part of the center link.

If your center link has the longer pin (2-5/8″) this idler will fit as is. If you have the shorter (2-1/4″) long pin, you will need to shorten the tube on the center link side of this idler arm 3/8″. We recommend removing 1/4″ from the top and 1/8′ from the bottom of the idler. A cut off wheel or grinding/disc sanding will work.
